MRS MOON BLOG

In the pink

February 05, 2010

We thought we ought to do a Valentine's window and had a great time! I was shocked how many pinks we have and it made me realise how much yarn there is at 41 Crown Road....! I guess that whatever yarn we stock, there tends to be a version in pink and red and as long as there is then we are bound to stock it... we're just drawn towards those rosey hues. Kate, Susan and lovely Lydia have made some beautiful hearts for the window and if you look carefully you'll see some of Kate's ceramic hearts... look out for her ceramic buttons in the shop soon. This keeping-the-window-up-to-date thing is going to keep us on our toes.... we're having to think of Easter already which is most unlike us... we're more last-minute-dash-to-get-the-easter-eggs kinda gals, so it should be good for life in general. Wondering how well we're going to do with the Easter tones... somehow I can't believe we have this much yellow... but who knows.... We've got new things coming in every day - a selection of fyberspates sock and lace yarn to see what you all like arrived on Wednesday... it's not going to last long, but we'll be getting more in in the next few weeks...Malabrigo should be here soon........ Hope to see you soon. Karen

Uknited Nations

January 14, 2010

We had a great inaugural knit-in today. Susan provided home made millionaire's shortbread and we had a small but select group of Mrs Moon friends knitting and chatting away... Our group hailed from Australia, USA, Richmond and St Margarets, so very cosmopolitan. Admittedly I don't think they made the trip specially, but it made us feel loved... There were great projects on show.. Fiona and Monica were showing us all how it should be done , Robyn was picking up where she left off years ago and Vanessa managed to finish her second project with real success. All in all a great first knit-in.. thank you to everyone who came... looking forward to many more.

Happy New Year

January 08, 2010

Well, the pom poms have come down from the window, so Christmas must be over. We had a lovely first Christmas and met lots of new people in the shop so we hope you'll all come back and see us again soon. Lots of exciting things coming up which you'll read about in our long-awaited first newsletter, but most importantly, we're going to start opening on Mondays from the 11th January. We hope this makes us more convenient for you and means less wasted journeys. We were really excited to receive delivery of Tante Sophie's beautiful individual patterns yesterday (see www.tantesophie.com). I'm already half way through the Mocha scarf which uses a skein of Blue Sky brushed suri... it's very soft and fluffy!! Just what you need when it's so cold outside. Our programme of lessons is beginning in the next couple of weeks, with Fiona Brooker teaching beginners knitting classes and Lydia Bates teaching creative sewing.... details to follow shortly. Hope you've got enough yarn to knit something snuggly over the weekend... see you soon...

Open All Hours

December 03, 2009

It's the St Margaret's Christmas Fair this Sunday, so, for one week only we're opening from 11-4pm. If you've not managed to pop in yet (and if you have) do come down on Sunday. There will loads going on including fairground rides for the kids, Santa's Grotto plus a panto. I'm even coming back from Center Parcs early, so it must be good. For more info on what's on, look at www.mystmargarets.com We must tell you about the latest addition to the shop which is the most beautiful knitted doll - Orlagh - from AK Traditions all the way over in Australia... She's very difficult to get hold of over here so we're so pleased that Annie has let us be her guardian. We've got the books in stock now and will have full kits available in the new year. Hope to see you Sunday.

We're not just good for yarn

November 27, 2009

Wow, what a couple of weeks! We've been completely overwhelmed by all the good wishes from our lovely new customers. Thank you so much to everyone who has come in (some of you many times) and spent some time with us.

We have lots of new things in stock. Brittany needles have come in and virtually gone again - they've been so popular with SW London knitters. I wanted to let you know about some of the other things that we have in stock ... we're not just for knitters.

We've loads of haberdashery including beautiful VV Rouleaux ribbons - from classic satins and velvets to giant bobbles and wired organza. Clothkits have brought squeals of delight from those who remember wearing them as well as those who remember making them and there is a wholenew generation out there about to get kitted up in their designs. Clothkits also have some Liberty print bias binding that has been a real favourite as well as giant ric rac... what couldn't be improved by giant ric rac? Kid's gifts from Buttonbag and Blueberry Park are very popular and we're in the process of putting together Mrs Moon kid's kits for inspired Christmas presents. Also for smaller kids (well, babies) we've got lots of Anne-Claire Petit toys and have treated ourselves to the rather luxurious crocheted Bird Cage... see our window.... We had a lovely visit from Jane Brocket yesterday. We love her books and blog and hope that she liked our little bit of St Margarets heaven. http://yarnstorm.blogs.com/jane_brocket

Open at last....!

November 16, 2009

We are open! Our hours for now are 10am to 5pm Tuesdays to Saturdays. We are also open on Sunday 6th December when there is a street fair in St Margarets - see www.mystmargarets.com for details. We've met some lovely people over the last few days and look forward to meeting many more over the coming weeks and months. Not to be too Oscar-like, but we have so many people to thank for helping us get the shop off the ground, in particular Kate, Tim and James for helping us with everything and being there to support us when things went wrong, Mick, Stefan, Steve and Adam for refurbishing the shop, Simon and the St Margarets Traders Association for lots of support, advice and publicity and all our children for putting up with slightly stressed Mummies over the last few months.

...opening soon...ish

November 05, 2009

OK, so things haven't quite gone to plan and it looks like Tuesday is a tad optimistic for our opening... We could in theory open, but we'd be displaying the yarn in cardboard boxes which wasn't quite the look we were aiming for. We're really sorry to all those people who have already come to look but the shopfitting has just taken a bit longer than planned. So, we are opening on Thursday 12th November from 12pm... The reason for the afternoon is that we won't quite be ready in the morning but can't possibly open for the first time on Friday 13th - it's not sending out good vibes! So give us a bit of time on Thursday morning and then pop in in the afternoon if you can. There might even be a bit of alcohol around for those so inclined.
