Yarn in the City update

September 07, 2015

We had a lovely start to show season with our day at Yarn in the City Pop-Up Marketplace.  The day began with the easiest set-up we have ever had.  Allison and Rachel from Yarn in the City had made sure that everything ran incredibly smoothly and we were so grateful!

The Pop-up Marketplace was a new iniative for this year and marked the start of the various yarn crawls around London.  The show had about 30 exhibitors, designer spotlights and a lovely cafe which is always a bonus!

We met lots of new friends and plenty of old.. it was lovely to catch up with so many people.  Our stand was next to Hannah Bass who creates fabulous tapestry versions of city maps...  Triskelion Yarn and Toft with their lovely crocheted menagerie. The perfect corner for us.

It was a great day out....  next up is The Handmade Fair.

Yarn in the City Pop Up Marketplace

September 01, 2015

It can be tough coming back to work after the exotic breaks that we have had over the summer, but when the first week back includes at day out in Chelsea, things get a little bit easier.  We are really excited to be exhibiting at Yarn in the City's pop up marketplace which is at Chelsea Old Town Hall on Saturday 5th September. You can find all the information about the day here

Edinburgh Yarn Festival

Edinburgh Yarn Festival

The Edinburgh Yarn Festival had rave reviews last year and we are tremendously excited to be able to have a stall there this March.  The event is brilliantly organised and has lots of fabulous workshops and exhibitors, plus in a lovely city to boot!

We've booked our flights and are looking forward to joining the fun in Edinburgh.  The show runs on Friday and Saturday 18th and 19th March and it's well worth planning a visit.  Check out the event website for the low down on tickets, classes etc.

Selvedge Artisan Christmas

Selvedge Artisan Christmas

Gorgeous selection of Christmassy offerings from talented artists from across Europe (and us!)

We had a lovely time at the Selvedge Artisan Fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall.  Everything about Selvedge magazine is beautiful and beautifully done so we knew what to expect.  We met old friends and made lots of new ones - Harriet Elkerton and her mum Pam showing Harriet's stunning porcelain, Amanda and Lesley from Raptround and Goat's hair rugs and runners from Corban especially.

There was lots to learn and loads to buy at Kirstie Allsop's Handmade Christmas Fair.  Everyting from covering a chair to making a Christmas wreath was covered!  We really enjoyed our weekend in hip and happening Manchester!  Here we are with two of my sons who helped us home on the train.

Hooking up

February 11, 2015

Since we closed the shop in January, we have been hooking up with our customers every week at Grounded, which just happens to serve the best coffee in London, every Wednesday morning.  We're here with the latest things we've been working on (here is my reworking of Godstone in Plump dk), samples of new yarn and hopefully good conversation :)

It is a great way to keep in touch, get some advice or get hold of some yarn if you would rather not order online.  This week Susan is also teaching crochet, which can be booked in advance... just drop us a line.

Other opportunities to hook up coming up are the Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia which is from 5th to 9th March (we're at stand G87) and then if you are further afield how about Wonderwool in Wales (25th/26th April)?

Super Easy Crochet Baby Blanket in Plump DK

January 30, 2015

This really is a very quick and simple baby blanket.  It is a basic chevron pattern, but to add some texture I have worked into the back loop of each stitch on every third row.

I have used 6 skeins of Plump DK:  Gooseberry Fool, Pistachio Ice Cream,Fondant fancy,  Clotted cream, Peppermint Cream and Bon Bon (1 skein of each colour). Used in this order.  I have managed to get 9 rows out of each skein.

To start:

Ch 117 (the stitch pattern is simply a multiple of 13)

Row 1: 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each of the next 3ch, *work 3trs into the next ch (this is the increase), 1tr into each of the next 5ch, skip 2ch (this is the decrease), 1tr into each of the next 5ch, repeat from * to the end (finishing with 1tr into each of the last 5ch) Turn

Row 2: Sl St into the 1st st and into the 2nd st (this is where you start your next row), ch3 (counts as 1tr), 1tr into each of the next 4sts, *3trs into the next st, 1tr into each of the next 5 sts, skip the next 2 sts, 1 tr into each of the next 5 sts, repeat from * to the end. NB you should be working your increase into the middle stitch from the increase from the the row below, the decrease should be around the decrease from the row below. Also note that you do not work into the top of ch3 from the previous row.

Row 3: Repeat row 2, working into the back loop only (BLO) of each st.

Continue repeating row 2. Work into the BLO on every third row. When you change colour you do not need to sl st into the 2nd st along just join your yarn into the 2nd st.

Mrs Moon Hook-Ups

January 06, 2015

THERE WILL BE NO HOOK UP 8TH APRIL... NEXT ONE IS 15TH APRIL.

Now that we're operating online only, we thought we needed a way to keep in touch with our lovely local customers.  We've come up with the Mrs Moon Hook-up that will take place every Wednesday from 10am to 11.30am at Grounded, 39 Crown Road, St Margarets.

Pop along to the hook-up if you need supplies (let us know what you want to look at first and we'll bring it along), or need some help with a project, or basically just want a coffee and a chat....!  We'll be there and will be thrilled if it's more than just us!

For more details, just email us at [email protected], or pop along next Wednesday!

Please note we can only give free advice on yarn/patterns bought from Mrs Moon, otherwise why not book a lesson!
